Formerly known as the Dog’s Room… Now more of a Kid Room.. This was a very strange room that came with the purchase of this house.
It was a 8 x 10 slab. The previous owners poured 3-4 inches of concrete around the slab to expand the deck area. The extended slab cracked and sank at an angle….so… they added walls and a roof to make it an enclosed room.
It came complete with the faux wood paneling and brown shag carpet. With the slope of the floor and the very low ceiling, it felt like something out of Alice in Wonderland. There was no insulation – just ceiling tiles (like in an office) hung beneath plywood and a corrugated tin roof.
The ceiling and floor still have a bit of an angle to them, but lifting it up, installing the recessed lighting helped. The wet bar is nice to have during parties. I got the countertop at Habitat for Humanity and the wine fridge from a buddy.
Last thing I did was the rock and mosaic on the floor. You can find an explanation of the mosaic, “Analog to Digital” here.
It was a very uncomfortable room to spend time in. I don’t mind it so much now.
