Fireplace Heat Deflector
This was actually my first welding attempt about three years before I bought my first welder. The heat went right up the chimney in our fireplace, not out into the living room.
Got the idea to build a deflector and went over to a buddy’s house to learn how to weld. I don’t have a picture of the original work, but as you can see, the seams where the plates come together is pretty sloppy. My buddy helped me trace the longhorn and cacti. It wasn’t that impressive to look at.
I recently pulled it out of the fireplace and cleaned it up a bit – added a few pieces, gave it some depth and retraced the design.
The deflector works really well. We have warm fires during the winter now. It actually gets chilly in Texas once in a while!
